Biography
Kent's work primarily reflects images within indigenous and cross-cultural settings, spiritual places and events.
From his home base in Dolores, CO, he travels extensively, often combining photographic work and facilitating spiritual retreats.
Kent moved to Dolores in early 2010 to collaborate with traditional Navajo and Apache practitioners. He is co-creating cross-cultural healing methods that incorporate core elements of wellness from predominately Dine’ ceremonial practices and those that he uses in his integrative healing arts practice as a licensed therapist and ceremonial practitioner.
Kent's healing arts training also includes various spiritual initiations received in India, French Polynesia, Costa Rica and within the United States.
He is also doing some documentary photo work on the Navajo of his time with traditional practitioners.
When Kent resided on Navajoland previously, he documented sacred areas and created national traveling art exhibitions of this art, including co-directing a five-year project known as Dine'tah-Hajiinei.
Kent has also developed a national model of culturally relevant educational materials for Native youth.
Kent's work has been funded by grants from the Arizona and Colorado Commission on the Arts, gallery and private sales and commercial production.
Kent is essentially self-taught, with mentoring from Ansel Adams.
His formal educational background includes undergraduate degrees in special education and sociology - with an emphasis on working with talented and gifted students, and a graduate degree in integrative psychotherapy.
He is committed to bringing the beauty of Nature into view while assisting others in their self-discovery and original growth beyond the commonly revered shamanic visions. Kent may publish a book of documentary images and stories from his stays on Native American ground.
He has taught at an art institute, in colleges and in public school programs for gifted and talented students in many cross-cultural settings.
Kent is represented by Camera Obscura Gallery in Denver. 303-623-4059, Attention: Hal Gould.
